INTRODUCTION

Climate Change is one of seven units comprising the Planning Institute of Australia's Planning Practice Course. Its overall aim is to provide participants with a more in depth understanding about climate change and how it can be considered in planning processes.

Climate change presents new challenges for the planning profession. It is also a topic that is undergoing rapid development with ongoing scientific insights and emerging policy and legislative frameworks for planning for climate change at all levels. This course is not intended to comprehensively deal with every issue a planner many need to consider when planning for climate change. The information and activities presented in this course are introductory in nature, designed to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to begin considering climate change in their workplace. The unit provides the foundations and grounding for planners to begin considering climate change in their work

Because the approaches and methods for planning for climate change will continue to evolve for the foreseeable future, ongoing self driven professional development will be essential if you are to keep abreast of emerging scientific discoveries and new policy and legislation. Climate change will be an ongoing professional development challenge for you. Again this unit provides the foundations and grounding to guide your ongoing professional development.
